Experience one of the most beloved films of all time on the big screen as The Shawshank Redemption comes to the Star Theatre in Uppers Sandusky as part of Ohio Goes to the Movies™, a statewide celebration of Ohio’s role in America 250.
Dates: Friday–Saturday, May 15–16
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Following each screening, stick around for a special panel featuring local extras and others involved in the filming, along with a few surprise guests sharing behind-the-scenes stories.
Make a night of it by stopping by Traum Brewing, located just across the alley, where you’ll find Shawshank-themed beers like Red’s Ale and Banker’s Blonde, plus a special Pioneer-style brew inspired by early American traditions.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to revisit a cinematic classic while connecting with the local stories and people behind it.

When: 5/17 for kids ages 8-16
5/18 for adults
Time: Doors open at 5:45 p.m
Overall, we are looking for kids who love to be on stage, who can sing and dance, and who take direction well. No need to prepare anything, but please wear comfortable clothes and shoes for dancing, be prepared to sing and read from the script, bring your British accent - and most of all, get ready to have fun!
What to Expect: You will fill out an audition form and get a name tag for your child. Then you will be seated with your child in the theater. The production team will address parents and kids a few minutes before 6:30 p.m. Then parents will be dismissed with a time given to pick up kiddos (depending on turnout!). We will teach the kids a song and dance and will read lines from the script. We will call you or email you to notify you if your child has been cast and, if so, what their role is, following adult audition and callbacks.
